Merrick Post No. 1282, American Legion, members would like to thank all the organizations and merrick residents who participated in the Merrick's Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony 2026. Thank you for participating during rainy Memorial Day 2026 holiday.
A speical thank you to Merrick / Freeport VFW #1310 for placing and removing the barricades at the beginning and end of the Parade route. Also to the Merrick Fire Department for co-ordinating the beginning of the Parade by the Merrick Train Station.

Note: the following email was correspondence between Second Vice Commander Frank D. Pedagno and Juliana Petrocelli from Sandford H. Calhoun. The email was sent on Friday, May 8, 2026 11:50 a.m. It was about American Award 2026 winner Thomas Rossi.
Thomas Rossi has distinguished himself at Calhoun High School through exceptional achievement in academics, athletics, leadership, and community service. As a member of the Advanced Science Research Program and an officer in Model UN, Thomas has demonstrated intellectual curiosity, dedication, and leadership, including helping organize the school’s first international trip to Switzerland. A four-year member of the Varsity Football Team, Thomas has been a respected leader whose work ethic and positive attitude have made a lasting impact on his teammates and school community. He has also dedicated countless hours to serving others through Art 4 All, the Bellmore-Merrick EMS team as a Junior EMT, and the Boy Scouts, where he is completing his Eagle Scout project. In the fall, Thomas will attend University of Pittsburgh as a pre-med major, where he will undoubtedly continue his commitment to leadership and service. Through his accomplishments, character, and dedication to others, Thomas truly exemplifies the values of leadership, patriotism, and community service, making him exceptionally deserving of this honor.
