Kenneth W. Woessner
June 16, 1926 - December 15, 2017

On Friday, December 15, 2017, Post member Kenneth W. Woessner reported to Post Everlasting.  Ken was a good man!!!  He was one of the first post members I met when I first became involved with the Merrick Post No. 1282, America Legion in 2007.  Ken participated in a number of events for the American Legion. Being a carpenter by trade, it was a natural fit when he volunteered to help but down a new Post floor a number of years ago.  He also participated in the Auxiliary Garage sale a few yeas ago.  He also liked to play cards, so when the Post members started up Friday night poker night every week for the past few years, you could find Ken there. Ken will be missed!!!

Merrick Post No. 1282, American Legion, members will be holding their solemn ceremony for Post Member, Kenneth Woessner, they are going to meet at N. F. Walker's Funeral Home on Monday, December 18, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. American Legion ceremony. N. F. Walker's Funeral Home is located at 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, New York. For more information call the Post phone at 516-521-6989 or the Funeral Home at 516-378-0303.

Wreaths Across America 2017 Update #2

Dear Reader, the following correspondence is to the Group Leader for Wreaths Across America, Auxiliary member, Toni Uberti. This is a Wreaths Across America update.

Thank you for being a Group Leader for Wreaths Across America and for supporting Long Island National Cemetery. Please see the message below from the Location Coordinator for Long Island National Cemetery :

**** MAJOR UPDATE 2 **** Well, I'm happy to announce the other exciting news that I can now let everybody know about. NBC Nightly News was in Maine last weekend doing a story on the Worcester family and Wreaths Across America for the upcoming weekend's events. The first part of their story will be about how this started, the family, etc Now, the second part of their story will finish up Long Island National Cemetery this weekend!!! Yes, NBC Nightly News will be at our ceremony taking both videos and pictures of our event to be included with what they filmed last weekend in Maine. So Long Island National Cemetery will be in the spotlight of the National Wreaths Across America Day for NBC Nightly News. This is for the national news which will be seen throughout the country. Not to be outdone, News12 has said that they will send down a crew to cover our event. That's the second major update I've got for everybody. It's nice to know that Long Island National Cemetery, one of the largest military cemeteries in the nation, will be the focal point of their story. Also, I met with the Director of the cemetery and some of the staff to finalize the details for Saturday's event which I'll be posting within the next day or two. Could there be another major update before Saturday?? Stay tuned to find out.
