Online Military Exchanges for Honorable Discharged Veterans

The Army, Air Force and Navy exchange will start allowing all honorably discharged veterans to shop online, (think Amazon, but only cheaper with not taxes). The target start date is Veterans Day, November 11, 2017, but you may register first. Registration begins June 1, 2017, you must call, 1-844-868-8672, after June 1 to register.

After you call the above number and give them a small amount of information, you will be told to go the following website: https://vetverify.org, to confirm that you are registered for this program. Veterans Appreciation Barbecue/Luncheon 2017

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, Merrick Post No. 1282, American Legion, members will again host a luncheon/barbecue for a group of disabled Veterans from the Stony Brook and Northport Veterans Nursing Home. This event will take place from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. We are trying to get donations from local merchants and banks in our area to support this event. Letters will be sent out to invite local area politicians and Nassau County America Legion officials to join in welcoming these Veterans from the Stony Brook and Northport Veterans Nursing Home. Post members, please take an active role in making this event a memorable one. Post members who want to participate in this event please gather at the Post at 11:00 a.m. Thank you.

Trip to see Long Island Ducks Baseball Game 2017

On Saturday, July 15, 2017, the Post will be going to a Long Island Ducks baseball game, there will be fireworks after the game. The cost of each ticket is $12.00 per person. The game starts at 6:30 pm. We will be meeting at the American Legion, Merrick Post 1282, at 3:00 pm for a complimentary lunch after which time we will car pool to the stadium. There is a limit of 30 tickets, so it is first come, first serve. This event is open to EVERYONE, NOT just Post members. So bring your kids and grand-kids. Make all checks out to the American Legion Merrick Post 1282 and send them to the Post with attention to: John Weber. If you have any questions contact John Weber at 516-223-5982. Post members who will be attending this game please try to wear your light blue American Legion short sleeved shirt to represent your Post at the game. Hope to see you at the game. Thank you.

Heroes Marching For Heroes

Although you may not be a member of any veteran organization, the members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Jewish War Veterans are requesting ALL VETERANS WHO ARE ABLE TO HONOR OUR COMRADES WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE by participating in our community’s MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY on Monday, May 29th by marching with us, attending the ceremony at Veterans Park, or at least standing along the parade route and saluting the AMERICAN FLAGS as they pass by. All those interested marching, please be at Broadcast Plaza by 8:45 AM. For additional information please call (516) 521-6989 or (516)378-2939.

In honor of Memorial Day, The Camp Avenue Barber Shop located at 22 Camp Avenue, North Merrick is giving two dollar discount on a haircut FROM 5/6 UNTIL 5/28 to all veterans when they present a County Veterans ID Card or a current membership card from a recognized Veterans Organization.
